Percentage of Student Computers Five years old or less
This statistic (collected by school and district) reports the percent of student computers 5 years old or less. This number was chosen to represent a type of watershed in capabilities. These newer computers are assumed to be able to handle such important tasks as on line testing and interaction with other rich internet applications. Older machines, because of operating systems and limitations in capabilities are much less able to perform these tasks. Because of the difficulties in actually dating computers, determine this number by reporting the number of student computers that are Pentium III or newer (or an equivalent like MAC OS 9.4)
Source of Information: Schools (base year)
NOTE: these two ratios are the data that will appear on the school and district report cards, but the data will be collected from the schools in terms of (1) total student instructional computers (2) student instructional computers 5 years old or less.
