Action Plan for Alternative Education Programs A5 and A6

Last Updated on Friday, April 11, 2008 at 9:17 AM

As you may know, the Kentucky Department of Education has been reporting regularly to the Kentucky Board of Education (KBE) on ways to ensure quality educational services are provided to students in alternative education programs. The most recent initiative of the Department involved the creation of the attached Action Plan for Alternative Education Programs (A5 and A6). This plan was presented to the KBE at its February 2008 meeting and received the endorsement of the Board.

The Action Plan is being shared with you so that you will be fully informed about the work the Department is doing in this area. As you will see from a review of the Action Plan, the Department is pursuing an aggressive timeline to ensure the growing numbers of students served in these programs are receiving an equitable and quality education. In particular, the Department will be reviewing the quality of academic services provided in alternative education programs. Additionally, a review of student-support systems will be conducted to determine if the level of services are adequate for the needs of this student population.

Should you have any questions or comments about KDE’s work with alternative education programs, please contact Nijel Clayton at 502-564-4772 or Nijel.Clayton@education.ky.gov.

We welcome your input and support as we implement the various initiatives in the Action Plan.
