Handbook for Public Playground Safety
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) created its playground safety guidelines as a detailed working blueprint to help local communities, schools, day care centers, corporations, and other groups build safe playgrounds. This Handbook includes technical safety guidelines for designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining public playgrounds. To highlight some of the most important safety issues for parents and community groups, we've developed a "Public Playground Safety Checklist," which can be found on the inside back cover.

Kentucky Energy Efficiency Program for Schools
The Kentucky Energy Efficiency Program for Schools (KEEPS) helps Kentucky school districts and higher education institutions reduce energy consumption and operating systems.
Kentucky Green and Healthy Schools Program
The Kentucky Green and Healthy Schools (KGHS) Program is a new, voluntary effort to empower students and staff with the tools needed to take action and make their school operate at peak efficiency. KGHS incorporates a two-pronged approach. New or renovated schools may include a “green and healthy” design from the start. Existing schools participate as students inventory current school operations and implement action plans to improve school health and sustainability. Recognition and awards are administered through the Kentucky Environmental Education Council in cooperation with the Kentucky Department of Education and the Green and Healthy Schools Task Force.
Kentucky's High Performance Schools Workshop
School Superintendents and board members, facilities managers, architects and engineers are invited to see and learn how one Kentucky school district built two High Performance schools. The workshop will explain sustainability concepts, how they enhance the learning environment and the steps to achieving High Performance in new construction, renovation and operations.
Kentucky NEED Project
The Kentucky NEED Project is an affiliate of the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project. The NEED Project is dedicated to comprehensive, hands-on energy education. Students are presented with objective scientific explanations on energy usage in society. Materials and activities are designed to promote an understanding of the economic and environmental trade-offs of energy consumption and production, so that students will be able to make educated decisions in the future.
Kentucky School Designs
This site is intended to provide information to school board members, school superintendents, school facility managers, parents and others involved in making decisions about building new and renovated school facilities in Kentucky.
The Kentucky School Plant Management Association (KSPMA) is a non-profit organization made up of Kentucky school facility managers. The state organization is part of the National School Plant Managers Association (NSPMA) and supports Kentucky school districts by providing training, informational programs, newsletters and an annual conference. The Department of Education is represented on KSPMA's Board of Directors and recommends that local school districts take advantage of this resource.
