In Kentucky schools, we will provide planned, sequential instruction that promotes lifelong physical activity.  It will be designed to develop basic movement skills, lifelong sports skills, and physical fitness as well as to enhance mental, social, and emotional abilities.  It will be delivered on a regular basis.

National Physical Education Standards - The National Association for Sport and Physical Education appointed the Outcomes Committee to answer the question "What should students know and be able to do?" The "Outcomes Project" culminated in the development of a definition of the physically educated person.

The Society for the State Directors of Health, Physical Education and Recreation was established in 1926 and is a professional association whose members supervise and coordinate programs in health, physical education, and related fields within state departments of education. Associate members are those who are interested in the goals and programs of the Society who do not work within a state education agency.

The Program of Studies for Kentucky Schools Grades Primary-12 helps ensure that all students across the commonwealth are provided with common content and have opportunities to learn at a high level.  The Core Content is designed for use with, not instead of, Kentucky's Academic Expectations and Program of Studies to provide the focus for the development of the Kentucky Core Content Test (KCCT).

Physical Activity and Nutrition Resources - In the past several months, KDE staff has been identifying and reviewing current resources which have attempted to combine the best of both worlds: academic achievement within various content areas (i.e., math, science, social studies, language arts) and improved health and physical education knowledge and skills.

PANT (Physical Activity, Nutrition and Tobacco) - Physical activity, nutrition and tobacco (PANT) related behaviors play a major role in the health of many Kentuckians.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP), these three modifiable risk factors contribute to nearly seventy percent of the cardiovascular diseases and conditions throughout our Commonwealth.
