The Phases of Change
Today is the final piece of the “Ecology of Change” framework developed by the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Change Leadership Group (CLG). Today we look at the phases of change. Transformative change requires time, and it also requires a strategic phasing and staging of efforts to build a strong foundation for reinventing schooling. Successful at-scale change — change that ultimately transforms teaching and learning for all students — requires building shared urgency around a recognized problem, developing a collective vision of success and enacting your improvement strategies.
More information on the “Ecology of Change” and the resources available through the CLG are available at Ecology of Change - Framework and Approach.
Parent Survey
KDE’s Division of Exceptional Children Services and the Office of Teaching and Learning are making available a Parent Involvement Survey online for the convenience of parents. The purpose of the Parent Involvement Survey is to gather data from "parents with a child receiving special education services" and receive from them a "report that schools facilitated parent involvement as a means of improving services and results for children with disabilities" as stated in Kentucky’s State Performance Plan. The Parent Involvement Survey was developed by the National Center for Special Education Accountability Monitoring (NCSEAM). The deadline to complete this survey is June 30. You can access the survey by going to Parent Involvement Survey.
No Pass, No Drive
The "No Pass/No Drive" statute (KRS 159.051) will become law on June 25, with implementation beginning August 1. This statute will involve every public and private school district across the state.
The "No Pass/No Drive" statute requires the denial or revocation of a student's driver’s license for academic deficiency or dropping out of school as a result of unexcused absences. Academic deficiency is defined as not having passing grades in at least four courses, or the equivalent of four courses, in the preceding semester. A student is deemed to have dropped out of school when he/she has nine or more unexcused absences in the preceding semester. Any absences due to suspension shall be unexcused absences. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Jo Rist or by phone at (502) 564-4772.
