9 Things You Simply Must Do
In a recent issue of “Leadership Wired,” a bi-monthly newsletter from Maximum Impact, founder John Maxwell presented a synopsis of Dr. Henry Cloud’s book 9 Things You Simply Must Do to Succeed in Love and Life. Cloud’s book contains his observations of nine principles commonly practiced by the successful leaders. Some of those principles include:
· Dig It Up
Everyone has dreams and desires inside of them. Successful leaders pay attention to what stirs in them and find outlets for their passions and exercising their strengths.
· Play the Movie
Cloud recommends playing out the movie of your life by deciding the traits your character has and who is starring beside you. Would your movie inspire others? Envision your future; don’t wake up one day realizing your life is like a B-movie.
· Don’t Play Fair
The rules of fairness mean that good actions deserve kind responses and bad behavior deserves punishment. Cloud believes that, with everyone keeping score, eventually someone will feel victimized if a good deed is not returned. The high road is the only road to travel. Treat others with integrity and better than they deserve.
“Leadership Wired” newsletter archives can be accessed on the Maximum Impact Web site. Dr. Henry Cloud’s book, published by Integrity Publishers in 2004, can be found at most online booksellers.

Unite To Read
Unite to Read is a statewide project designed by Kentucky’s Career and Technical Student Organizations to promote literacy and lifelong learning. The project was started in 2004 as a joint partnership with Future Educators Association (FEA), Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) and Kentucky Educational Television (KET). Each year, more participants are added, and the Kentucky Council on Economic Education has joined as a partner.
The program design emphasizes the importance of reading and offers recognition for a student’s reading efforts. Approximately 50,000 career and technical education students in more than 178 schools mentor elementary students during the elementary component of “Share a Story Night.”
This year’s “Share a Story Night” book is Lemonade for Sale by Stuart Murphy. Activities are focused around the theme, entrepreneurship. The high school component consists of a reading certificate program that encourages reading with recognition given in the form of a bronze, silver or gold certificate for books read in a school year.
More information on Unite to Read can be found on the Unite to Read Web site or by contacting Nancy Graham or Reeca Carver.
