Legislation and Policy

Federal legislation and policy related to implementation of Even Start Family Literacy grant.

 

Even Start Statute William F. Goodling Even Start Family Literacy Programs.

Even Start Guidance document is designed to assist States and local programs in understanding, administering, and implementing the Even Start program.

Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act of 1998 reinstated categorical eligibility for pre-kindergarten Even Start participants participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), beginning October 1, 1998.

Kentucky Family Literacy Quality Indicators are expectations for programs to guide their work with families, serving as guideposts to tell is we are moving toward the goal of breaking the cycle of poverty and illiteracy.

 

Building a Strong Foundation for School Success includes the following: Kentucky Early Childhood Standards which describes what children should know and be able to do; the Kentucky Early Childhood Continuous Assessment Guidewhich outlines how to appropriately measure a childs progress on the Early Childhood Standards; the Kentucky Early Childhood Quality Self-Study a tool to provide direction for program improvement, and; the Parent Guides to the Early Childhood Standards provide a vehicle to help parents understand what the Early Childhood Standards are, what the Early Childhood Standards mean to them and their child(ren), and what they can do to support the healthy growth and development of their child(ren).

 

Kentucky Electronic Data System is a tool for Even Start programs to collect and enter family literacy performance data.

 

Technical Assistance is provided to Even Start programs through the Kentucky Institute for Family Literacy.

 

Statewide Evaluation Literacy Investment for Tomorrow (LIFT) –Missouri is providing a statewide evaluation design for a performance-based logic model focused on the Kentucky Family Literacy Performance Indicators.
